Alastair |
Printable Bio |
Alastair is approximately 2 1/2 years old – he is still a puppy though. He is a black cocker spaniel in good general health.
Alastair has the run of the house all day and all night. He is housetrained and enjoys two walks a day – one in the morning and one at night.
Alastair has Juvenile Onset Cataracts in both eyes. He may have been born with them. He can probably see shapes and shadows, but for all intents and purposes he is completely blind and should be treated as such. This complicates his life as he cannot see obstacles or read body language. This is affecting his ability to get along with my other dogs. Alastair should probably be an only dog or be paired with an older, laid back dog.
Alastair should not be around children under 12 or any child who is not capable of understanding the needs of a blind dog.
Juvenile Onset Cataracts can develop into Glaucoma. Glaucoma is a chronic condition that requires treatment and can result in a dog needing to be enucleated, which is having one or both eyes removed. Alastair may or may not develop this condition – there is no way to predict with any certainty.
Blind dogs are not handicapped in the sense that a blind human is. It is true that they can’t read body language, which is a large piece of canine communication, and they can’t see the sofa right in front of them and may run into it, but they still have their sense of smell – and smell is the paramount sense for a dog.
Alastair's foster parents are always available to families who adopt their fosters, and will be especially available for anyone who adopts Alastair.

Archer |
Printable Bio |
Archer was rescued from the Terrell Animal Control. He's a cute 18 month-2 yr buff Cocker, with adorable white freckles on his nose and a natural tail. He is very playful, with some puppyish attitude. He's adjusting well to crate training. He's not housebroken at the moment, but is learning and has already "asked" to go outside a couple times. He gets along well with other dogs. He shared a run at shelter with 3 little dogs and now lives in a foster home with two other dogs and a couple cats. He does have some toy and food aggression. He probably would not be a good fit for a family with (young) children. He's very smart - in a week, he's made good progress learning sit, "take it" and "drop it" commands and loves to play fetch with a tennis ball. He loves to cuddle and get his belly rubbed. He tries to please and responds well for treats. He loves daily walks and play time in and outside.

Barbee |
Printable Bio |
Hi I’m Barbee! Life pre-foster care wasn’t the easiest -- I’ve mothered many a pup but I’m glad that those days are far behind me. I’ve had heartworms and ear challenges, but thankfully the kind people at DFWCSR treated those and they are thing of the past, raising funds for my double ear ablation surgery. I live with 7 other furkids so I have no problems with other dogs, but in all honesty, I would rather have a human all to myself. I love to be spoiled and really enjoy one-on-one time. I really enjoy some play time, but I have to admit I’m a bit of a couch potato. When my foster mom is at work, I stay in the den with the other dogs (8-9 hours a day). I’m a master at the doggie door, so accidents are few and far between. If I really have to go and don’t have access to the doggie door or be taken outside, I am trained to use a potty pad. My favorite thing to do is go for a ride, so you’ll never have to be lonely on those long car rides again. I’m not much of a kisser, but I’ll go for a cuddle any ol’ time (my foster mom nicknamed me Velcro). You definitely shouldn’t be fooled by my age and the fact that I’m a laid back girl. I may be 8 or 9 years old but since my double ear ablation, I feel and act at least 3 years younger! AND I enjoy going on walks and absolutely love meeting new furkids and people along the way!
I’m really just a very sweet girl looking for all the love in the world…that’s not too much to ask now is it?!?!?!?!?!?!

Bogey |
Printable Bio |
Bogey is a little Cocker boy that needs a special and understanding home. Bogey is a totally beautiful, sweet little (22 lb) dog who has some mild neurological issues. He loves being around people and has no problems with other dogs, and I doubt that there would be a problem with cats.
Bogey likes attention and would thrive in a situation where he is given a lot of attention and stimulation. He likes people and will bark at you if he wants attention and he’s not getting it. He is very good in a crate and he loves dog beds. He may circle a half dozen times inside the dog bed before lying down, but that’s just something that he does.
Bogey also has bad allergies. He can’t have peanut butter or foods that normally cause allergies. His DFW Cocker Rescue vet has recommended that he be on a fish based dog food. It would be best if he were in a home that doesn’t have much dust. He also needs frequent baths. He’s pretty good during a bath – it’s not his favorite activity but he doesn’t fight it like some dogs.
Bogey won’t go outside when it’s raining or even damp. If he was in a home where his owner was home more and where he had a lot more individual attention, I think he would do a lot better. It will be important that Bogey’s owner learn his patterns and work with him to only potty outside.
He truly needs a home where his owners will work with him and be understanding if he doesn’t act and react like most dogs.

Dumplin |

Printable Bio |
Hi, let me introduce you to two of the sweetest little sisters named LoveBug and Dumplin. LoveBug is white and buff and weighs around 18 lbs and Dumplin is black with white on her chest and weighs around 23 lbs. We want to adopt these precious little girls together because they appear to have been together their entire lives (2-3 years) as witnessed by their strong bond to each other. They do everything together including giving each other kisses. They are housetrained, and crate trained, however; would love to cuddle in bed with you if allowed. These little girls LOVE people, children (although no toddlers because Dumplin can be shy at first and I would imagine a young child would scare her), other dogs and even have learned to live with cranky cats. They love to go for walks, ride in the car, and especially cuddle on the couch with their family.
These girls have been two of the easiest foster dogs we have ever fostered. They have wonderful personalities and anybody who meets them seems to fall in love with them. They have both been spayed, are up to date on vaccinations and have been given a clean bill of health by our vet. If you would like to meet these girls please fill out an application and let us know. Thanks

Elvira |

Printable Bio |

Elvira loves to play. She is high energy and very curious about everything. She jumps up from a nap and follows her foster mom whenever her "mom" moves. She loves to snuggle and give puppy kisses. She is not completely house trained but is coming along. She is crate trained. She is a small cocker and weighs around 19 pounds.
Elvira likes baths and doesn’t mind having her ears cleaned.
Elvira gets along great with people and her foster brother.
Elvira was heart worm positive and had mange when she was rescued. She has been successfully treated for both. She shows no ill signs of the heart worms or the treatment. She still does not have all her hair, but it is growing.

Gina |

Printable Bio |
Gina has really blossomed in the past 3 months. Her stiff legs are now agile and strong and she can leap tall buildings with a single bounce and is faster than a speeding bullet!!
She is still shy around strangers but is curious and will allow them to pet her. She is a good eater and likes to sleep on the bed with her mom and other cocker siblings. She is passive with other dogs and good around cats. She will do best where there are other dogs as she will howl if left alone by herself.
She is playful and loves to have her belly rubbed and now allows you to love on her. For a little, shy, frightened girl who spent her first few years locked in a cage, she has become more confident of herself and of strangers, and appreciates the love and attention she is now getting. She still needs work on her potty training but tries to beat the other dogs out the doggy door.

Hi, I am Kristofer. I am a quiet, calm, and loving little boy. Do you like little dogs to rest in your lap? I can do that, love it, actually! I am solid black and have a really shiny coat. It is beginning to have little silver highlights, you know dignity comes with a bit of age; so does knowledge.
Oh, Cocker Rescue loved me so much that they repaired my ACL so I have to be careful about running and stuff. I love people but am very shy at first. I am working on potty training but not there yet so I need to be crated when you are gone. Other dogs are okay but I prefer they be in someone else’s home.
If you think I might be the one for you please contact Cocker Rescue.

Lippy |
Printable Bio |
Skippy's original owners named him Lippy ... no idea why ... but he answers to Skippy. He's a sweet boy that loves to sit in your lap and sleep with you. He's also a strong boy - so he might not be good with young children that he would accidently knock over and he could do with a little leash training as he pulls a lot. We call him our "bull in a china cabinet", he doesn't mean to be pushy ... he just wants love and attention. Skippy gets along with other dogs as long as they don't mind being pushed around a bit and he would probably be best fed separately – although he does currently enjoy his dinner in the company of Maggee. He is basically house trained, however there have been a few accidents, but he shares his current home with senior dogs that can't always "hold it" long and we believe that has caused him to backslide just a bit. He just needs a regular schedule and strong, gentle human to get him back in the swing of things. Skippy also suffers from some separation anxiety and barks when we are gone, therefore, he would not be a good apartment dog. He does know the sit, down and stay commands. Skippy has shown some interest in balls .. he just hasn't figured out to bring it back yet. *lol* Skippy does have dry eyes, but does well with the medication. We have him on a no wheat or corn pet food and we think that has helped him a lot. He's a handsome boy that deserves a loving, forever home.

Hi! My name is Mason and I am ready to go to my forever home. I am a very calm and loving six-year old male cocker spaniel.
It takes me a while to warm up to people because of my background but once I’ve determined that you just want to love me I’ll be your faithful friend for life. I get along with other dogs however I would prefer to be the only dog. I have never had an accident in the house.
I am terrified of crates so please don’t try to put me in one. I so want a forever home, won’t you please give me a permanent home for the rest of my doggie years?
I can’t wait to met you and be part of your family.

Hi my name is Mathis, yes named after Johnny and I am as smooth as he is. I am an energetic 2 yr old Springer mix. That is what I think I am. I have lived with my foster mom for now 2 months and am no longer being crated at all. My mom says I am doing great with housetraining (but still have a few accidents). I try to hold it but ..... I will do better now that there is a doggie door. I get along with other dogs since we have two other males and two other females. I am not food aggressive but do eat very fast. I like to play with chew toys and have never chewed on my mom’s things. I do like to carry her slipper or socks around but not to chew them up.
I like little boys that play with me I guess even little girls too. Don't really care for cats they tease me through the fence and I don't like that.
So if you have it in your heart and want to have a great lap dog PICK ME!!!!! Thanks for reading this.

Miles |
Printable Bio |
WOW – this is one handsome boy!!! Miles is a happy, super sweet tri-color Cocker who LOVES people, kids and other dogs. He adores being petted and loves to have his hair brushed and will sit very still for that. He is housebroken but relies on you to make sure he can get outside when he needs to go (knows how to use the doggie door) and will signal you when he needs to go out as well. Being a typical Cocker Spaniel, Miles really dislikes getting his paws wet and will, occasionally, have an accident if it’s raining outside unless you go out with him to do his business (grabbing an umbrella and walking him will definitely do the trick). He will leap into your lap but gets down when you ask and just wants your love and attention. Being very playful, Miles likes to “pretend chew” on your hands but is being trained not to do that because some people just don’t understand that a guy’s gotta chew. He is crazy about toys but needs the harder ones because he can make quick work of the softer ones. With a puppy-like, short attention span (which is total entertainment), Miles makes a game out of emptying his toy basket, plays tug, keep-away, and will retrieve, dropping things just short of your hands. Everything he finds right now he thinks is “fair game” and is learning to differentiate between what he can and what he can’t chew on – and he will definitely need your vigilance and help in learning those choices like most new dogs to a household would.
Miles is crate trained, goes in willingly and is very comfortable sleeping there (although he does love to make himself at home on the couch, chairs or on the bed – what dog doesn’t?) He will howl when you start to leave but will stop if told “Miles! Hush!” most of the time. This will probably diminish as he learns that you won’t be gone forever, that you are definitely coming back and that YOU are “trustworthy”. He also has a built-in alarm clock of sorts and wants to go to bed around 9pm! He is learning not to jump on people or in their laps without being invited, and he is one VERY enthusiastic, happy dog who only wants to show you how much he loves you.
In the “Looks Department”, Miles is going to be quite a stunning Cocker Spaniel when all of his fur grows back. He came to us needing a lot of care and attention with skin challenges and a lot of fur missing underneath, but he is looking better and better every day. He will be one of our Extreme Makeover candidates where his before and after pictures will just leave you in disbelief and the power of TLC. Won’t you send in your application to meet this gorgeous boy and fill your home and heart with SO much love????

Milton |
Printable Bio |
Milton arrived at DFWCSR (through a recent large puppy mill raid in Montague County) looking less than his best, but as you can see he’s made a rapid recovery to be a handsome, active and charming 3-4 year old Cocker boy. He weighs in around 25 pounds, but came with a ravenous appetite.
He made all of the volunteers laugh and smile, and seemed to adjust happily after a life of total confinement and no love. Milton had the time of his life romping and playing with the other rescued dogs once we “sprung” him, and only wants a family to give him the love he was denied for so long.
The foster for Milton reports that he is crate trained and does not mess in his crate even when he is left 6-8 hours at a time. However, like most Cockers, he does not like to get his paws wet when it’s raining (well, who would if you had furry feet?!)
He loves other dogs and children, but we don’t know about cats. He also likes to show his enthusiasm and jump up to greet you and play, so a small child might not be a good idea for an adoptive family with this little guy.
Although he doesn’t do very well on long car rides over 15 minutes or so (gets a little car sick), he does not bark, dig or climb fences (GOOD DOG!). He likes to give kisses and loves to play! He is just learning how to fetch and hasn’t quite gotten down bringing the ball back yet.
Milton would do best in a home where he could get lots of love and attention. He learns from watching the foster’s dogs, so if you already have a great, playful dog, Milton could learn the ropes that way, too.
If you love to go for walks, Milton is your guy (and he just loves a crowd, especially with all the attention he gets).
Won’t you open your home and your heart to this gorgeous, handsome bundle of love? Apply today and you might just be the one who gets rescued!

Radar was out of time at the Fort Worth shelter. He is heartworm positive. He was described as looking like a sheep with so much thick fur. He is probably a petite, small dog and beautiful when groomed. Shelter staff said he was really a love. He is about three years old.

Hi, my name is Russell and I thought I'd tell you a little about myself by sharing a poem I wrote with my foster mom. I hope you enjoy it. Rowdy I certainly am not, Unique right down to my tan dot! Sweeter than candy, a Snuggler is always handy! my Ears are far from well, but i'm so Loveable it's hard to tell! Lively yes, lazy...not ever, Don't you want to give me a home forever? My foster mom thinks that my poem is awesome, but said she thought it might not tell you enough about me, so she asked me to tell you a little more. I wouldn't say I'm the life of the party, but I'm definitely fun to be around. I sometimes get very overwhelmed when lots of people are around and ironically it seems that I'm so cute there are always a lot of people around me...go figure! I'm just a bit sensitive and it takes a while for me to warm up to people. Other than that, my only issue is that my ears hurt me all the time! The nice people at DFW Cocker Rescue have promised me they would be fixed very soon, so I'm super excited. They've told me that I'll have to have a double ear ablation, and even though I have no idea what that means I do believe them when they say I'll feel like a new man. Until my ears are fixed though, I'd rather you not touch them. I mean I know I need my medicine but can't we just pretend that you gave it to me instead of torturing me twice a day every day??? I promise I won't tell, it can be the first of many secrets we share !! I think the most important thing you need to know about me is that I cannot go to sleep without my covers. If I can't be under your covers with you, may I please have my own covers? I promise to make my bed every morning if I can have my own covers! Ok, so maybe I'm telling a little white lie on that one. I mean I can try to make my bed, but I can't promise it'll always happen. In return, I promise to always look cute (especially when I'm asleep and/or waking up with my tongue sticking out, my foster mom falls for it all the time, so I'm confident you will too), always eat everything you place in front of me, be your best friend, never complain about you spoiling me, and last but definitely not least always, always, and forever love you with all my heart! Thanks for reading my letter...I love you already! Russell Since Russell was in such a hurry to finish his letter, I thought I'd provide you with a few more specifics on one of the cutest furkids ever. Hi, I'm Russell's foster mom and I've had the pleasure of knowing him a little over a month now, learning quite a bit a long the way. Russell loves using the doggie door, running in and out of it as often as possible. And I'm very proud to say that he hasn't had an accident up unto this point. While I do not crate him at all, I can tell you that if there is an open door, he will hang his head, walk in, & lay down without even being ask/told. Based on this reaction, it would seem to me that he's been crated in the past and that they weren't pleasant experiences. While I don't know about all animals, I do know he's great with other dogs and quickly recognizes who's in charge. As far as how he is with children, I don't know. Because his ears are in such deplorable shape, I've decided to wait until post ear surgeries to evaluate his interactions with them. Speaking of his ears, we are currently raising funds (we need approximately $2,400 to do both ear oblation surgeries) to help this furangel out and truly hope to be able to get the worse of the two ears taken care of before the end of January...yes, they are really that bad. As he shared, he gets meds twice a day and while he's not a fan, he does tolerate the routine as long as there's a little motivation in it for him (a.k.a. a treat). He has shown no food or toy aggression, in fact he does just the opposite. If some else wants it, he hands it over no questions asked. Russell's been to the dog park and while it took him a while to get comfortable with all the humans, once he did he had the time of his life! His first meet and greet on the other hand was not as positive as he became extremely overwhelmed and scared. I'm confident that with continued positive experiences this type of reaction will subside. With all that said, Russell is truly a diamond in the rough at this point. It's obvious to me that this little guy has had a traumatic past. I have had the pleasure of fostering two previous double ear oblation furkids and based on those experiences know he won't be ready for his furever home until all surgeries and healing are complete. But that does mean you can't help me in making sure his future is full of fun, security, and love....won't you help him? In return, I promise he'll show you how much he loves you every minute of every day for the rest of your lives.

Shep |
Printable Bio |
Shep has been with me for a long time. We’ve been through many health issues together. Shep has had ear ablation surgery (removal of his ear drums) on both of his ears. He has so much infection in his ears, that there was no other option. He also has severe dry eyes and has several eye drops to put in his eyes every day. Fortunately, he’s the BEST EVER at allowing drops to go in his eyes. (he’s much better than I am at having drops put in my eyes).
Shep is the most beautiful boy – chocolate and tan, curly cocker fur, and he is housetrained. He’s also the sweetest, loving cocker boy you’ll ever meet. Shep is around 6 or 7 years old, around 28 lbs.
Shep would benefit from someone who would continue working with him learn to get around since he can’t see very well, and can’t hear very well. And someone who would put the eye drops in his eyes every day. The expensive ear surgery has already been done.
Shep just needs a companion or family to love him. He does get along well with other dogs. He is not aggressive at all! He loves people and just wants to be loved and cared for in return.

Tickles |

Printable Bio |

Tickles is a sweet girl about 4-5 yrs. old, but unfortunately she has cataracts in both eyes and is mostly blind. Because of this she can get snippy if startled - however she has never bitten, however she would not be good around children and would need an experienced mom/dad. We're hoping we can get her eyes fixed, however its very expensive, but she is on the list for a future special fundraiser.

Trinity |
Printable Bio |
TRINITY is 4 years old and is absolutely beautiful, inside and out. She first came into Cocker Rescue a year ago in December 08, 3 weeks away from giving birth. She was so hungry, pregnant and scared. She couldn’t even approach her new fosters out of fear, but with good food, tons of belly rubs and lots of TLC, she came to know what the love of a human is all about. Trinity delivered 8 beautiful puppies which have since been adopted to loving homes.
Once bonded, you will truly have a companion for life with this beautiful lady. Prepare to have your heart stolen. She is both housetrained and crate trained, and LOVES going on walks to hunt everything in sight and what MIGHT be there. She does need some leash training as she pulls out of over-excitement, but this is definitely something that can be corrected with training.
Trinity is hoping for a home that does not have any children or other pets and wants to be the only dog. Because her previous circumstances of having to fend for herself while expecting a large litter, she prefers not to have to share food, toys or her humans if it can be helped (who can blame her?). She would benefit from more socialization with other dogs, and would thrive with a strong, calm authority figure to help her blossom with training.
She is so wonderful, so beautiful and so devoted that her fosters will be sad to see her go, but they know she needs the right forever home who can give her the concentrated love and attention she deserves. She will be a beautiful, loving, constant companion that will fill your heart with so much love, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without her.

Willie |
Printable Bio |
Hi, my name is Willie and I am looking for a good FOREVER home. A couple of years ago I was rescued from a horrible puppy mill in East Texas where there was no fresh water, or food, or shelter and then I was adopted. I just want to be a normal dog and be loved and love you for the rest of my life.
I am a silver buff (my foster mom says that is a very rare color for a Cocker Spaniel) and I am probably about 4 years old. I am potty-trained, know how to use a dog door, love to sleep in the bed with you at night and cuddle, sit next to you on the sofa, lay under your desk during the day while you work, and love your attention and love. I like other dogs, but I really don’t interact with them much. There are other dogs where I live now and I kind of like this other girl that came from the mill also and was adopted by my foster mom, but I can take her or leave her. I am kind of a lone and I can amuse myself for hours on end with my toys and chew hooves. My foster mom says I am a “hoot” (whatever that is). She laughs at me all the time. I am shy around humans at first which goes back to being abused at the puppy mill, but I will warm up to you. I don’t really like those small humans called children, so I prefer a home where I don’t have to compete for attention with kids and where my owner is around most of the day. But I will follow my person around everywhere as I love to be with them – I am happy to be your best buddy, your constant companion.
So, what do you say? You think I am the boy for you? And this time my foster mom says it will truly be my FOREVER home and will stay with you for the rest of my life. If you want to meet me, just fill out an application and mark it for “Willie” and the nice people at DFWCSR will send it to my foster mom. You know your heart needs this as much as I do!
