Charles Arthur is a great little cocker. He's so smart and has many tricks in his repertoire! He came to us with some behavioral issues and after many trips to different vets, we were told he has a liver shunt, which is a blood vessel that carries blood around the liver instead of through it. The shunt causes many physical manifestations such as the equivalent of migraine headaches, obsessive-compulsive behavior like chasing shadows and scratching at walls to "catch" the shadows. Behavioral abnormalities can also include circling, disorientation, unresponsiveness, staring into space all of which Charles has exhibited over the last couple of years. If not treated, seizures can occur. He can change demeanor from a sweet boy to a real grouch!

We followed veterinary advice and put him on a special diet for three months and what a change we saw in his personality! It seemed to help his body reduce the amount of toxins that build up and the problem was under control. What a huge difference was witnessed. The vet told us it would work for awhile, but not forever and at that time we would need to do surgery on Charles. The time has come and we are looking at a surgery bill of $2,500 to $4,000. The procedure to determine if the liver shunt is operable might include an ultrasound or possibly a liver biopsy. If surgery can be performed, the cost of the surgery would put our expenses closer to the $4,000 mark.

PLEASE chip-in whatever you can to help Charles Arthur have a healthy life again. Seeing his health return will be a dream come true - - and you can help make it happen!
